TCB – The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing is a biography of the influential writer Toni Cade Bambara, whose literary works and film collaborations were a catalyzing force in 20th century cultural and political movements. The documentary is made up of stories shared by friends and colleagues including Toni Morrison, Nikky Finney and Haile Gerima.

Louis Massiah

Director

Louis Massiah is a documentary filmmaker and the founder of the Scribe Video Center in Philadelphia. His documentaries, include The Bombing of Osage Avenue, W.E.B. Du Bois – A Biography in Four Voices, Cecil B. Moore, films for the Eyes on the Prize II series, and TCB – the Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing.

I am a Venezuelan freelance film and video editor/director who has worked for major broadcasters in the UK, USA, Europe and Latin America. I have been based in the UK since 1978. Having trained at the BBC in the 1980s, I worked across editing technologies from film, analogue tape to digital technologies. As an Editor I worked for the UK Broadcaster Channel Four in several projects on Latin America, notably the Marc Karlin “Nicaragua Series” 1985-1991; Maya Films “Stories for Cutzcatlán” 1989; Faction Films “Fidel” 1998. I was director/editor “Gynecological Chronicles”1992 and “Murder & the
Feather Boa”1996. For ZDF (Germany) editor “Iranian Journey” 1998 and co-director/editor for ZDF/Citurna (Colombia) “Wartakes” 2003. For the US network PBS, editor of the series “WEB Dubois: a biography in 4 voices”1995 and was
researcher/Associate producer “The Hugo Chavez Show” Frontline, 2008. I have an interest in archival, home movies and the creative explorations of history. For more than a decade I have been filming and building a digital archive on Venezuela in the times of Hugo Chavez, from his arrival on the scene through his death and beyond. More recently, I have been completing
the editing of TCB: The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing.
